Following the recent attacks on brands that were considered to be racist in South Africa, South African maize meal producers ‘White Star Super Maize Meal’ have changed their name to ‘Black Star Super Maize Meal’ to avoid being labeled racist. “It is not easy to say anything and not offend anyone in South Africa these days”, Spokes person of White Start Super Maize Meal Kobus Van Mdoko  said on Saturday. “You can’t say words like white, hair and beetroot and not offend anyone these days. We are literally walking on egg shells everyday. That’s the reason why we have decided to change the name” he said. The producers of the famous Maize Meal say it will take time to get used to the new name, “but our customers will have to bear with us. We are living in difficult times. Who knows, maybe we might have to change the name again soon to not offend Indians and Chinese people”, he said.
